Mayra Andrade
« Stória, stória … »
New album
Out now !

Recorded in France (Paris), Brazil (Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo) and Cuba, produced by the Brazilian maestro Alê Siqueira, “Stória, stória …” is a gem of an album, firmly rooted in the rhythms of Cape Verde (morna, coladeira, bandeira…) as well as generously taking in elements of Brazilian, Cuban and jazz music.

The repertoire features 3 original tracks written and composed by Mayra, the record’s other tracks have been written by today’s best Cape Verdean composers.

From upbeat and lively songs with brilliantly arranged for horns (‘Tchapu Na Bandera’, ‘Badiu Si’) to the most romantic and lush ballad, ‘Morena Menina Linda’, with the strings arranged by maestro Jaques Morelenbaum, the album showcases Mayra as an incredibly versatile / creative / profund  and sensitive singer and it provides a richness sofar unheard of in Cape Verdean music.

But most striking of all, it is Mayra Andrade herself, who shines as an amazing singer.

Mayra Andrade this summer
The New York Central Park Summer Stage Festival this year invited the global Francophone community to celebrate chanson française with a line up that represented the diversity of French contemporary music. The evening opened with Mayra Andrade presenting a repertoire that fused different styles — the Cape Verdian rhythms of placid morna, the peppier coladeira and funana — with Brazilian music, jazz and hints of African styles which she sang mostly in Cape Verdian Creole. The audience were also delighted with songs in sung in French, like the track Carrousel from her new album.
“Stória Stória” new album
After the huge success with her first CD “Navega” (Sony) in 2006, Mayra Andrade releases her new album Stória, Stória. Between shows, she found some time to stay at the studio to record 13 songs full of soul and sensibility. For this new project she worked hand to hand with artists from all musical backgrounds. Each of these great musicians enriches her panorama and colours her soundtrack, they understand her world and soul: the Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca, Portuguese accordionist Celina da Piedade or the Brazilian arranger Jacques Morelenbaum. For this new project, Mayra wanted rhythm and percussions to play an important role, and she has managed to achieve a natural sound that at the same time is still very classy. Following the project from beginning to end, Mayra Andrade joined forces with the perfect man for the job, producer Alê Siqueira, who has attracted considerable attention by putting his stamp on, or rather creating a certain sound for, recent Brazilian pop gems by Marisa Monte, Caetano Veloso, Tom Zé and Arnaldo Antunes. Between the lines of “Stória, stória...,” Mayra Andrade tells many stories – about day to day life, life in general, and love.
